Mr. Gumpy's Outing
Description
Mr. Gumpy's Outing is a classic children’s picture book written and illustrated by John Burningham. First published in 1970, the story is simple, humorous, and filled with gentle lessons about behavior, responsibility, and cooperation. The story follows the kind and patient Mr. Gumpy, who decides to take a boat ride along the river. As he sets off, several children and animals ask if they can join him. Mr. Gumpy allows them to come along, but he asks each one to behave and not disturb the boat. As the boat becomes more crowded—with animals such as a goat, pig, sheep, and chickens—things slowly start to go wrong. The passengers begin to move around and make noise, ignoring Mr. Gumpy’s instructions. Eventually, the boat tips over and everyone falls into the water. Fortunately, no one is hurt. Mr. Gumpy calmly invites everyone back to his house for tea afterward, ending the story on a warm and friendly note. • Published Date: 1990-03-15 • Page Count: 32 • Dimensions: Height: 26.00 cm, Width: 25.00 cm, Thickness: 0.30 cm • Estimated Weight: 284g
